EaziLink v4 Installation
------------------------
Files
-----
The following files should be on the disk supplied (or archive
downloaded from a BBS):
INSTALL.EXE The EaziLink installation program.
INSTALL.DOC This document file.
EL-SFX.EXE The EaziLink self-extracting file.
UT-SFX.EXE The extra utility self-extracting file.
( Note: UT-SFX.EXE is only supplied with REGISTERED copies of EaziLink )
The ??-SFX.EXE files are self-extracting archive files which contain
the actual EaziLink program and support files which are extracted when
the ??-SFX.EXE files are run.
A New EaziLink Installation
---------------------------
If this is a new EaziLink installation proceed as follows:
- Create a sub-directory off the route directory of your hard disk.
called EAZILINK.
- Copy all the supplied files into the newly created EaziLink
directory.
- Change to the EAZILINK directory and from within the new directory
run INSTALL.
- DO NOT run INSTALL from the supplied floppy.
- DO NOT try to run EL-SFX.EXE from the DOS command line.
INSTALL will guide you through the EaziLink installation process
prompting you for information where neccessary. If it is a first
time installation INSTALL will run EL-SFX.EXE extracting the files
within it. After extraction is completed INSTALL will delete the
EL-SFX.EXE file.
INSTALL will create default sub-directories and copy files to them
completely automatically. If your modem is on the list contained
within INSTALL then all you need to do is select it and the modem
control strings will be entered for you.
To extract the utility programs supplied with registered copies, type
'UT-SFX' at the DOS prompt.
Upgrading From EaziLink v3.x
----------------------------
If you are upgrading from EaziLink v3.x to v4 and wish to keep your
current v3.x set-up proceed as follows:
- First make a written note of the configuration details within
your existing EaziLink v3.x program. The v4 .CNF file format
is different and this information will act as a guide when you
configure v4.
- Create a temporary directory and copy the supplied files into it.
- From within the new temporary directory, at the DOS prompt, run
both EL.SFX and UT.SFX to extract the EaziLink and utility files.
- Copy EAZILINK.EXE and EAZILINK.OVL from the temporary directory to
your existing EAZILINK v3.x directory, overwriting the old v3.x
EAZILINK.EXE file.
- If any of the other EXE files supplied with v4, for example ELX.EXE
TELSOFT.EXE etc., are later versions than those you are currently
using with v3.x, overwrite your old versions with the new ones.
- Use DIRCON2.EXE to convert your old v3.x dialling directory files
to the new v4 format.
- Delete the old EAZILINK.CNF file.
- Run EaziLink v4 and configure it using your notes as a guide.
END.
